Set crawl rate

Set crawl rate for your website in Google webmaster tools
There is a lucky and fine tool to the websites which are not often crawled.
If you feel if your website/blog is not crawled often then you can set this
Crawl rate to fast.
But while setting the crawl rate to fast Googlebot often crawls the
website/page and leads to put more load on your server.

And the while you select Fast crawl that will be expired after 90 days.
I have selected Fast crawling let me see after 90 days
when selecting slower googlebot will reduce the traffic of the site.

Set Crawl rate present in Dashboard->Tools-->Set Crawl rate

Google inner workings

Every day we use Google to search. But how Google Works ? Jeff Dean(Google Fellow) turned some parts of google operation. Speaking on Google I/O conference just showing how company's infrastructure really is. Dean thinks that 1,800 Servers runs in a routine to an ordinary google search query that involves 700 to 1,000 servers. Google doesn't know how many servers are there but it estimates easily.

The image “http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm205/karthik775/2404505335_9f06ed86ac_o.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Google has 36 data centers across the globe. With 150 racks per data center, It puts 40 servers in each rack. That means Google has more than 200,000 servers.
Google required Intel to create custom circuit boards. It puts a case around each 40-server rack in house design.

A look at a custom-made Google rack with 40 servers from a modern data center. It uses and interconnects Multicore machines to maintain parallelism.

Secrets of google
Dean described three core elements of Google's software Google File System, Bigtable and MapReduce Algorithm. Google helps with a lot of open-source software projects. GFS is the lowest of three softwares which is used in all data centers. GFS handles many many petabytes in Size.(A petabyte being a million gigabytes). More than 200 Clusters running GFS and many of these clusters consists of thousands of machines.

GFS stores each chunk of data, typically 64MB in size, on at least three machines called chunkservers, master servers are responsible for backing up data to a new area if a chunkserver failure occurs. "Machine failures are handled entirely by the GFS system, at least at the storage level," Dean said.

BigTable, which Google began designing in 2004, is used in more than 70 Google projects, including Google Maps, Google Earth, Blogger, Google Print, Orkut, and the core search index. The largest BigTable instance manages about 6 petabytes of data spread across thousands of machines, Dean said.

MapReduce, the first version of which Google wrote in 2003, gives the company a way to actually make something useful of its data. For example, MapReduce can find how many times a particular word appears in Google's search index; a list of the Web pages on which a word appears, and the list of all Web sites that link to a particular Web site.

Fault tolerant Software

"When a machine fails, the master knows what task that machine was assigned and will direct the other machines to take up the map task," Dean said. "You can end up losing 100 map tasks, but can have 100 machines pick up those tasks."

Next-generation data center to do

"We want our next-generation infrastructure to be a system that runs across a large fraction of our machines rather than separate instances," Dean said.

Right now some massive file systems have different names--GFS/Oregon and GFS/Atlanta, for example--but they're meant to be copies of each other. "We want a single namespace," he said.

Google Image Labeler

http://aycu07.webshots.com/image/44446/2000028880094128273_rs.jpg http://images.google.com/imagelabeler/
Google says that Google Image Labeler, a feature of Google Search that allows you to label images and help improve the quality of Google's image search results.

How it works :
You'll be randomly paired with a partner who's online and using the feature. Over a two-minute period, you and your partner will:

  • View the same set of images.
  • Provide as many labels as possible to describe each image you see.
  • Receive points when your label matches your partner's label. The number of points will depend on how specific your label is.
  • See more images until time runs out.

After time expires, you can explore the images you've seen and the websites where those images were found. And we'll show you the points you've earned throughout the session.

I have Labeled some images and i have scored !

Check my proof of my score !

http://aycu16.webshots.com/image/45455/2000089764919419241_rs.jpg

I have labeled "grey" for the above picture and my score increases !

http://aycu36.webshots.com/image/44195/2000049633905567242_rs.jpg

And my total score is 340

Looks Interesting and it is like a online label game .
